Lahore to Chennai A journey called  life traces the roller coaster journey of feisty, politically, conscious young women born in an elite, progressive Punjabi family from partition –torn Lahore to tranquil Chennai over more than sixty years.

One of the few female masters degree holders educated at the famed Government college and Kinnaird college Lahore before partition, she played a pioneering role in the post-independent Indain schooling systems the founder principal of Adarsh Vidyalaya and Kendriya Vidyalaya Gill Nagar, Chennai and as the principal of several other schools.

This autobiography of a pioneering educationist, geographer and community leader seamlessly weaves personal and family history in the public history of portioned lives, the Indian education system, the Punjabi diaspora in Chennai, the emergence of geography as a discipline and female empowerment.

Freedom-fighter, homemaker, teacher, educator, globetrotter, and social activist, Mrs Hoon has worn many hats with such ease and grace that is a testimony to her ‘never die ‘spirit. The autobiography stands out for the wealth of details, sharpness of observation and all, for the author’s generosity.

As a product of one of the many Institutions that bore the stamp of her caring hands, finally we can understand that why the students of that school have gone places.

The above impression of the book is given by Anjali Roy Gera, the Professor, Dept. of Humanity & social Science, IIT Kharagpur.

Over all Impression

Really this book contains the marvellous history of Kendriya Vidyalaya Gill nagar Chennai and the journey of different part of life. The Author Visharda Hoon Joined KVS as the Principal at KV Gill Nagar in 1965 and retired as an Education Officer of the sangathan, south region in 1986.
It is very interesting to read and motivates to students. This book is available in the Vidyalaya library with the Acc. No.17510.
